Year 1 Walk around Billesley!

Year One went on an exciting adventure around Billesley to learn about the local area and the different types of buildings. We spotted lots of different types of accommodation such as semi-detached, detached, terraced houses, flats, bungalows and EVEN caravans!

It was a fun filled afternoon and we all went home to find out what type of house we lived in! Yay! 🙂

Almost there…

As you all know, year 1 have been working super hard on their performance with the help of Stan’s Cafe. Well, just to let you in on a secret…we’re almost there and we are so excited to show off our amazing hard work. We’re not going to tell you too much as we don’t want to ruin the surprise but here’s a sneaky picture to keep you going until our big show on Tuesday!

Sailing, sailing, over the ocean blue …

Today we continued with the preparation for our big show. We went through each part and put sections of the show together. Each group had to listen carefully to when their part was coming up. We also practised our song and the actions to go with it.

Here is a sneak preview of our show …

Lubna said “In our show I look at the stars with a telescope”

Isabella told me that she sings a song all about jobs the crew do on board the Santa Maria.

After practicing our show we worked with Denise on our log books. We added more things to the inside and continued to write about what we had done this week in our sessions. Some children also created an ink print.

Dominic explained what his log book was all about.

image“I’m going to Africa to see the cheetahs and alligators. I made a compass so I can travel east, west, north or south”

Here is Mehrunisa explaining her ink print.

Getting started on our big show.

We had lots of fun today in year 1, working with Stan’s Café. Not only have we been logging our own discovery we’d like to make in our personalised log books, we have also started to work on our big show. We have some exciting things for you to see! We have our very own Christopher Columbus, our own ship and some amazing singing skills to share…stay tuned for more updates next week.

Year One are discovering America!

Over the next 5 weeks Year 1 will be working with Stans cafe. Stans cafe are leading a drama and dance project all about the ‘discovery of America’.

This week was our first session where we spent some time with Craig and Becky.  The hall was laid out like Christipher Columbus’ ship.  We had to role play life on board the Santa Maria. We acted out different jobs that the crew would have done.  It was hard work!

We can’t wait to find out what we will be learning next week!

Black Country Living Museum

On Friday, year 1 enjoyed a trip to the Black Country living museum. We learnt about different homes and how they have changed over the years. We saw an old classroom and even managed to sit in on a lesson. It was a very fun and tiring day.

26th November 2015 1J – Parent Phonics Workshop

Today we had our phonics workshop for our parents.  We supported parents and gave them advice and strategies to help them support their children at home, and develop their phonics skills.  The parents had an opportunity to watch a short phonics session and after, had the option of staying and playing a range of phonics themed games, with their children.  It was a good day and I know the children were very excited to have their parents there, so they could show off all they have learnt.  Thank you to all those who came, we hope you enjoyed it.  We certainly did.IMG_1822 IMG_1823  IMG_1824 IMG_1825 IMG_1826 IMG_1828  IMG_1831  IMG_1836
